I was trying to find a reference to Robin Wall Kimmerer’s “Braiding Sweetgrass” to share with a person who contacted me who didn’t understand the concepts of reciprocity I was attempting to convey. When I was in South Dakota in the summer of 2020 a Lakota friend told me this story about the eagle and the flood and the importance of even a small number of people standing for the sacred work in gratitude. It made a big impression on me at the time. This person who contacted me wanted everyone to be very afraid and they felt the Constitution was the only answer. I have a very different frame of reference. It strikes me as significant that the Atomic Energy Commission has tried to co-opt the Thunderbird symbol - see Sandia National Labs and part of the architecture in the AEC funded Los Alamos post office.
Anyway - I thought it would be nice to share these screenshots from the story. It meant something to me. Google Books
