Just wanted to pull out this excerpt from a paper @stephers shared yesterday, I think. Once you understand the future of production is meant to be on-demand 3-D printing (ala the matter compiler in The Diamond Age) these bits about bio-prospecting even of extinct species gets interesting and unsettling. I now see the faux “green” eco-analysis as a giant molecular data grab to scale the acquisition and labeling of the building blocks of life for one giant syn-bio experiment.
No wonder there are so many crappy 3-D printers in schools and libraries. They are normalizing all of what is to come - including bio-nano CAD among other things.
